Monster Hunter Now
Monster Hunter Now presented another opportunity to harness the power of the community by gathering hunt reports from the community and processing the material drop data from the hunt reports in order to understand the drop mechanism in the game.
Of note, two sets of spreadsheets were made:
The Material Drop Rate spreadsheets revisited the various techniques I've employed in the creation of EVE Echoes spreadsheets, with a handful of modified and new techniques. This made it possible to process the large amounts of static data to be gathered from the community and determine the drop rate of the monsters in the game.
As for the Equipment and Skills Index, the most challenging part was the filtering for the equipment that provided a specific skill level. While it's not apparent in the published web document linked above, every cell showing the list of equipment that has the skill indicated in the first column is actually a set of formulas that pull and filter the data and display them automatically. This would allow me to expand the list easily in the future when more skills and equipment are added without having to search the equipment for skills manually.
The only manual parts in the above sheets are the data-gathering part, which can't be automated because of the challenges in reading screenshots from the game and a lack of game data that can be reverse-engineered from the app data. Otherwise, my spreadsheets should have saved players a lot of time in finding the equipment and skills they need, and to understand how the material drops work and be able to farm more efficiently and effectively.
