Kendo
The Way of the Sword
Kendo (剣道, kendō), which means "the way of the sword", is a modern Japanese martial art based on old Japanese swordsmanship, kenjutsu (剣術). It is primarily practiced with the use of bamboo swords (竹刀, shinai), wooden swords (木刀, bokutō), and armour (防具, bōgu) that covers the head, torso, hands & forearm, and thighs.
I developed an interest for kendo in around 2012-2013, but never acted on it because of the distance from the dojo and the associated costs. 10 years later, I finally embarked on the journey of discovering my way of the sword in March 2023, and have recently been awarded the grade of 6th kyū in the June 2023 grading conducted by Singapore Kendo Club.
I am currently practising with Singapore Kendo Club.
